Abstract:

Autism is one of the disorders which are categorized as pervasive developmental disorders according to 4th edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Impairments of social and communication skills, behavior patterns, interests, stereotyped, repetitive and restricted activities are considered as the most important characteristics of autism. According to its high relevance in the world, experts consider special intervention programs for treatment and education of children with autism. Most of programs are based on educational and behavioral approaches. One of these methods is pivotal response training (PRT). In PRT, behaviors are considered as a target behavior which can promote other behaviors. After the improvement of target behavior, behaviors which are related to target will change so, PRT saves time. PRT is based on the child’s nature and the child can select his/her favorite activities and the form of teaching method. In fact, the teacher should be innovative in his/her job and constitute a play from every situation for the child. The teacher should train the child without abusing him/her. In present article, we are going to introduce pivotal response training and discuss its challenging ahead.
